Lisbon has officially welcomed the Holidays Season.
Christmas lights in Baixa area are already lit up and really soon it will also start a series of free concerts and festivities to celebrate this Season.
From December 1st until December 17 several venues and churches across the city, from Bairro Alto to Graça and from Marvila to Lumiar will host a number of concerts. There will be something for everyone’s taste, from Romanian and Australian Christmas carols to German classics and the traditional Portuguese songbook.
These shows will also occupy some of the most emblematic venues in town, such as Cinema São Jorge and the recently renovated Cine-Teatro Capitólio, where an unique Fado Lírico (Lyrical Fado) will take place – several Fado artists will perform a bunch of traditional Christmas songs, as well as some classics by Mozart or Vivaldi.
For those arriving in our beautiful city, or those waiting for their loved ones to come home for Christmas, there will also be a little treat. The Youth Choir of the University of Lisbon will be performing at Lisbon’s Airport, greeting everyone with a special Christmas show.
And because every Christmas celebration should have a nativity scene, the Museum of Lisbon invites children to create a nativity scene out of a very portuguese material, cork.
