There are restaurants that once you try them you’ll get hooked for all your life. A Taberna da Rua das Flores is one of those places.
At this little restaurant in Chiado area Portuguese petiscos are served with a modern update like you have never eaten before. And please don’t mistake petiscos for tapas. Yes, they are both served in small portions and they can both provide a delicious meal but when in Lisbon, ask for petiscos!
The menu changes everyday as the ingredients vary according to what was being sold in the market during the morning. Freshness is unbeatable and the taste in impossible to surpass! Also, this makes it possible to come back over and over again to A Taberna da Rua das Flores and never get tired of their good Portuguese food menu.
If you are lucky enough to catch it, don’t miss out the opportunity to try their “mexilhões à bulhão pato” (mussels cooked in olive oil, garlic and fresh cilantro, a variation of the same dish made with clams), their see bass ceviche (a dish usually popular in Latin America reinvented and cooked the Portuguese way) and, of course, the famous “pataniscas de bacalhau” (shredded codfish dipped in a wheat flour batter mixed with onion and parsley, fried in oilve oil).
The staff is friendly, always willing to help you choose from the menu that they read from a large black slate board that they carry around. Don’t be surprised if sometimes some of the dishes are already crossed off the board because the food at A Taberna da Rua das Flores is indeed the best food.
The space is well decorated, with beautiful Portuguese vintage furniture that makes the restaurant a cosy and pleasant place to be.
There is only one catch: the restaurant is also a bit small and they don’t take reservations so make sure you arrive early and prepared to wait. This might sound a little discouraging but trust us, your meal will be worth the waiting and at the end you won’t even remember for how long you had to wait.
Besides, A Taberna da Rua das Flores also has a nice wine list with wines produced in the Lisbon region so you can always wait enjoying a good glass of wine or a cool craft Portuguese beer, also served around A Taberna da Rua das Flores.
Once you try it, you will find yourself craving for their food from time to time.
