Café da Garagem is a charming Lisbon café and bar located on Costa do Castelo, right beneath Castelo de São Jorge, with a stunning view over Lisbon.

It has some tasty toasts and snacks (try out the Camponesa toast – smoked ham, goat cheese and tomato jam), a selection of salads (chicken, tuna, mozzarella, ham and mozzarella, nothing fancy but rather good) and a few deserts to indulge your sweet tooth (who can resist a nice slice of apple pie baked with condensed milk?).

It also has a decent wine list as well as several cocktails, besides coffee, latte, cappuccino, tea and chocolate milk.

But there’s no doubt that what will make you linger and stay just a lit bit longer than you have planned is the amazing view over Graça’s hill!

One of the walls is a gigantic window over the city that will enchant you and you will not want to leave. From here you will see Graça, Nossa Senhora do Monte belvedere, Mouraria neighbourhood and Martim Moniz.

It is the perfect place to have a coffee after lunch, to grab a bite during the afternoon or to drink a cocktail as the sun goes down. Nevertheless our favourite time of the day, to sit facing the window while enjoying a glass of wine, is definitely at night, when all the street lights turn on and Lisbon just seems like a huge nocturnal postcard.

On hot summer days, it is also possible to sit outside on Café da Garagem’s terrace feeling the breeze on your face.

Other interesting fact is that Café da Garagem is on Taborda Theatre’s building. In fact it is decorated with theatre related objects and is called Café da Garagem after the resident theatre company “Companhia da Garagem”, so you might even catch a show upstairs every once in a while.

Sometimes there are also jazz concerts, poetry readings and recitals making Café da Garagem more than a café with a breathtaking view, a cultural spot.
