It’s all about the food – Zapata

You go to some restaurants for their menu, others for their location or even for the decoration but lets face it: the most important thing is, indeed, the food.

And at Zapata, the food is really the star.

You will find thousands of restaurants around the city (no, this isn’t an overstatement, lisboners like to eat out, that’s a fact) that will serve you that kind of authentic portuguese food, that reminds you a bit of homemade food, that really hits the spot, and that’s exactly what you will find in Zapata.

Its façade is quite discrete, almost too easy to miss out when passing by, but the inside is always full and bursting with people having a good time while enjoying a nice meal.

Regulars, that include some famous Portuguese chefs, tend to recommend the fish, especially the grilled dishes – tuna or codfish are always good choices. The seafood, like clams or shrimp, is also popular but there are also plenty of meat options to choose from and the menu changes everyday so everything is fresh.

Prices are also quite reasonable and the kitchen is open until late hours, which makes Zapata a favorite for large groups.

> Insider tip: it’s said to be one of the best places in São Bento area to eat “caracóis” (snails). They are available only during summer time and are a delicious Portuguese delicacy that goes hand in hand with a cold, refreshing, glass of beer, or, as we call it, “imperial”.
