There is no better stamp of approval than a place always full with happy costumers. If you pass by Nova Pombalina that is exactly what will see.
It is somehow difficult to define Nova Pombalina, located in Baixa area. It is a café, but also a restaurant and it serves some “petiscos”, like you would find in a “tasca” (a popular establishment that serves traditional food, where it is all about the food, not so much about the decoration).
The place is simple, decorated with some beautiful Portuguese tiles, service is efficient, it opens very early and it is closed for diners, sadly, but one thing is certain, eating at Nova Pombalina is quite an experience.
It has some of the most decadent “leitão assado” (roasted suckling pig) sandwiches in town, the “croquetes” (small breadcrumbed fried minced meat rolls) are to die for and they proudly serve artisanal products, made in Portugal, like cheese from Serra da Estrela and Alentejo prosciutto.
If you are trying to stay healthy or if you simply need a boost of energy, the freshly made fruit juices are best sellers.
All food is delicious, no matter what you ask for it will be quickly served to you and prices are quite nice. A simple recipe for success.
