Portugal has some of the best music festivals. Some of them win prizes and attract people from all over the world.

But there is one music festival that you will only find in Lisbon and it happens every year, for the past 4 years, by this time.

We are talking about Caixa Alfama, a festival fully dedicate to Fado music, that takes takes place right in the epicenter of one of Lisbon’s most traditional neighbourhoods, Alfama.

For two days, between September 23rd and September 24th, Fado gets out of its usual places like restaurants and “casas de fado” and invades all the neighbourhood, namely the Fado Museum Auditorium, Santo Estevão and São Miguel churches, Clube Lusitano and some streets and windows of Alfama.

There will be 10 separate venues, where you will be able to see 40 artists perform. Different genres of Fado, different generations, different moods, there will be plenty to chose from.

This year’s Caixa Alfma line-up include performances by Fado singers Carminho, Raquel Tavares, Aldina Duarte, João Casanova, Cidália Moreira, Marco Rodrigues and many more.

Make sure you bring your walking shoes to wander from stage to stage and climb up and down the narrow streets of Alfama by the sound of Fado.
