Goodbye 2016, hello 2017! Lisbon New Year’s Eve

The countdown is officially on!

Now that Christmas is over, we prepare ourselves to welcome 2017 and a New Year arrival asks for celebration.

Here are Neighbourly Lisbon New Year’s Eve suggestions to enter in the New Year with the right foot.

 

Lusitano Clube: what about kicking the old year out at one of Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood clubs, right in the heart of Alfama? The recipe for Lusitano Clube New Year’s Eve party is simple: laid back atmosphere, a bunch of DJs that promise to keep you dancing and a bar fully stocked with some of the most authentic Portuguese beverages, from Port wine to Moscatel. Doors open at 23:00, just in time for midnight, and they even offer all guests champaign and the traditional raisins. Price: 5€ (includes 2 beers or a white spirit). Rua de São João da Praça, 81.

 

Casino Lisboa: you don’t have to be a high roller to celebrate the New Year in Casino Lisboa. In fact, it may not cost you a cent! As per usual, Casino de Lisboa will host concerts by Supreme Sounk and HMB as well as a stand up comedy show by João Paulo Rodrigues at Arena Lounge Stage that will put a smile on your face. Festivities begin at 22:00 and entrance is free. Casino Lisboa, Alameda dos Oceanos, 45 – Parque das Nações.

 

Topo Chiado: if you want to party like it’s 1920 and have the beautiful Chiado area as a scenery this is the perfect party for you. Topo Chiado is located in Carmo area, in the center of Chiado neighbourhood and is preparing a Great Gatsby themed party, where you can have a delicious dinner, toast and watch the fireworks at midnight and dance all night long. Entrance is by reservation only so hurry up. Price: 60€. Topo Chiado, Terraços do Carmo.

 

Terreiro do Paço: it has become a tradition. Year after year hundreds of persons flock to Terreiro do Paço to welcome the New Year by the river and to celebrate. This year the party will last even longer, starting on December 30 and only stopping on January 1st. On December 31st you can watch portuguese musician Rui Veloso, at 22:00, followed by the customary firework show over the river Tejo at midnight and a concert by portuguese artist Agir at 00:20. Entrance is free.

 

Mouradia: Mouraria has lately become one of Lisbon’s most multicultural neighbourhoods and New Year’s eve at Mouradia will be like travelling around the world, from africa to latin america, in just one night. Party starts early, at 19:00 and make sure you bring your dancing shoes because you will be dancing late until 4:00. Free entrance. Mouradia, Beco do Rosendo 8-10.
