Where codfish is king – Laurentina restaurant

In Portugal there are, supposedly, 1001 different ways to cook codfish or, as we say it, “bacalhau” – when it comes to culinary, Portuguese people are extremely creative.

So when in Lisbon one must try, at least, one codfish recipe and Laurentina restaurant is one of the best spots in Lisbon to try out this Portuguese delicacy for the first time.

They call themselves “The king of the cod” and their menu includes about 10 codfish dishes to choose from, from the delicious grilled codfish to the yummy codfish rice, pretty difficult to find in most restaurants.

We are sure everyone will find at least one dish they will want to taste and we really recommend trying out Laurnetina’s codfish but there are also other alternatives such as roasted lamb, sardines or even a few dishes from Mozambique (Laurentina’s founder lived in Mozambique for a while).

The staff is quite friendly and will be glad to help. Since most of them have been working there for decades (the place first opened in the 70’s) they know the menu better than anyone, so trust them.

The atmosphere is warm and nice, somehow the perfect balance between a fancy restaurant and a family place.

As a bonus, it’s open seven day’s a week, all year round (except Christmas).
